MIDDLETON AD HOC SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
TUESDAY JULY 20, 2009 6:30 P.M.

1. Call Meeting to Order
Saeger called the meeting to order at 6:34.

2. Minutes of June 22, 2009
Share moved, Olson seconded, to approve the minutes of June 22. Motion carried (8-0).

3. Electric Vehicle Charge Station Presentation
Jim Axt and other representatives of ElectricCharge Mobility, LLC. made a presentation about electric vehicles. Kurt Reinhold and Dee Finnegan presented information related to the grant application for an electric vehicle charge station at the Terrace Avenue municipal parking lot.

4. Become a Committee by Ordinance
Committee members gave updates on the research that was done to find out how sustainability committees are comprised in various eco-municipalities in Wisconsin. Committee members are interested in finding out how the ordinance would restrict committee membership. Committee members instructed Attoun to have a draft ordinance prepared for review at the next meeting. Committee members expressed interest in keeping the committee large, keeping a high school student on the committee, and keeping at least one business owner on the committee.

5. Operating Budget Request
Saeger reported that she worked with Attoun and the committee will request only a $3,000 operating budget for 2010 due to the tight city budget. Attoun will prepare a formal budget request for the next meeting.

6. Sustainable Community Plan
Attoun updated the committee on the visioning session, which had about 50 attendees. The next Green Team meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 5.

7. Green Building Presentation
Finnegan gave a presentation on LEED and what other cities are doing to encourage LEED- certified green building.

8. Community Gardens
Carey updated the committee that Jane Prejean is getting a real estate box to put out at the Forsythia site for communication purposes. Boley’s dropped off 2 dump trucks of free wood chips at the site and a gardeners work day has been planned. Committee members are interested in getting leaf mulch from Public Lands in the fall. Carey will work with garden leaders to set a date for the Harvest Festival.

9. Clean & Green Middleton
Moved by Saeger, seconded by Olson, to nominate Koenig as chair of the Clean & Green task force. Motion carried (7-0). Koenig will work with the Clean & Green task force for an October date.

10. MedDrop
Attoun and Koenig will meet with Kendra Jacobsen to discuss the fall MedDrop. Attoun will include a summary of the meeting when she sends out the minutes.

11. Solid Waste Automated Collection Education
Saeger is working with the Solid Waste Subcommittee on the education component of the automated collection service. She directed the committee to check out the Fitchburg recycling site, which is very comprehensive.

12. Sustainability Awards
Brar will update the committee on sustainability awards in the future.

13. Monthly Sustainability Seminar
The July seminar topic is ‘Canning Food.’ Intern Curt Staats is working on finding a speaker.
