MIDDLETON AD HOC SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
TUESDAY APRIL 20, 2009 6:30 P.M.

1. Call Meeting to Order
Brar called the meeting to order at 6:36.
2. Minutes of March 16 and March 31, 2009
Koenig moved, Saeger seconded, to approve the minutes of March 16 and March 31. Motion carried (8-0).
3. Clean & Green Middleton
Koenig presented the results from the Clean & Green Middleton event.
4. Community Gardens
The committee discussed the offer from the Blettner Group for a temporary garden site. Davis encouraged the committee to consider the offer from the Blettner Group and said that there should be an agreement each year for expectations about water and liability. Goyings will serve on the community gardens task force. The gardens will be advertised in the MT-T, through the schools, and through the apartments in Middleton.
Davis will ask BT² if they would be willing to do the soil testing work pro bono. West said that Mike Anderson might know people who would till the site.
Carey moved, Helgeson seconded, to accept the offer from the Blettner Group and to request a formal written agreement. Motion carried (8-0).
Carey moved, Saeger seconded, to request $500 to prepare the site, advertise to gardeners, and purchase necessary materials. Motion carried (8-0).
5. Adopt-a-Boulevard
Attoun reported that there are a group of residents on a residential street that are interested in gardening in their traffic circle. They will be filling out a form for adopt-a-boulevard through the public lands department.
6. Sustainable City Plan
The Sustainability Committee members of the ‘Green Team’ will be Deb Saeger, Angie Carey, Kathleen Caron, and Kris Koenig. The ‘Green Team’ will be finalized by the end of April to stay on schedule.
7. MedDrop
Koenig, Vaughn, Olson, and Boehn will serve on the MedDrop task force and will meet before the next meeting to finalize things for MedDrop.
8. The Natural Step
Caron presented the results from the first Natural Step study circle; including what went well, what didn’t go well, suggestions from participants, current situation, and recommendations. Caron will contact the participants on the waiting list to see if they would be willing to wait until after the summer or to encourage them to join a group in another community.
9. Monthly Sustainability Seminar
Lorman will present the next seminar on May 14 on the topic ‘Sustainable Transporation: Biking in Middleton.” Attoun will see if Mark Opitz is available to join Lorman in the discussion. Henry Hart will present the June seminar on ‘Climate Change.’
