2. Minutes of January 19, 2009

Saeger moved, Koenig seconded, to approve the minutes of January 19. Motion carried (5-0).

3. Presentation from Weitzel’s Middleton High School Class

The Middleton High School Ecology Club made a presentation about making Middleton a fair trade town. They spoke about the importance of fair trade products that support equal pay for workers, safe working conditions, eliminating discrimination, etc. The Ecology Club will set up a display at Middleton’s Clean and Green Middleton Day. They will get a sample resolution to the committee.

4. The Natural Step

Committee discussed opportunities for making the Natural Step Study Circles more effective and how to reach more people. Pati suggested making the TNS flyers more description about how TNS can help move Middleton toward sustainable living.

5. Community Gardens

Finnegan presented the community garden design. Attoun will put together a poster board or a presentation for the PRFC meeting on March 2. Brar suggested seeing if Fresh Start may be available to help with the community garden. Saeger reported that we need to have a soil test to check for PCBs.

6. Spring Cleaning Initiative

The large 9 foot MPowering ‘M’ will be available for the Clean & Green Middleton Day. The Library will have a table advertising the new ‘green’ books that are available. Attoun will contact the M.H.S. principal to see if any indoor space would be available for the event in case of bad weather.

Clean Sweep would charge $3000 to come to Middleton, so the committee decided that they will get information about Clean Sweep and set up a booth at no cost. Attoun will get a copy of the Green Valley collection agreement and forward it to the committee.

7. MedDrop

Koenig updated the committee on MedDrop. If the group decides to hold the MedDrop on the April 18, MedDrop will charge a $500 setup fee, plus a per-pound medicine collection fee. The Committee decided to hold the MedDrop on June 6 because that is the date that they will waive the setup fee.
