What’s Happened Since #1 with the Middleton Public Lands

PROJECTS

  • 2007 –Quisling Trail – 40’ clear span bridge installation as part of that DNR trails grant project
  • 2007 – Completed the France Hamerstrom Nature Conservancy Trail, featuring involvement and interaction with local school groups on interactive interpretive signs
  • 2007 – Completed $10,000 DNR Urban Forestry Grant Project at Middleton Hills Oak Savanna & Pond Area, effectively restoring over 10 acres of public lands
  • 2007 – Installed the Hall Memorial Gazebo at Lakeview Park, a $25,000 shelter memorial donation to the largest community park in Middleton
  • 2007 – Quisling Park practice soccer fields (8) completed
  • 2007 – Installed two 60’ clear span bike/ped bridges in the PB Creek Corridor
  • 2007- Installed new playground equipment at Lakeview Park East
  • 2007 – Completed 10’ wide paved bike/ped pathways at Quisling
  • 2007 – Completed 2,000 sq ft. Rain Garden at Orchid Heights Community Park
  • 2007 – Completed the Graber Pond Master Plan
  • 2007-2009 – 10 acre wetland restoration project along Middleton Beach Road continues, including invasive species removal, native plantings and osprey nest platform installation
  • 2007 - 2008 – Completed the Lake Mendota & Baskerville Harbor Dredging Project, effectively removing 7,500 cu. Yds of sediment from the lake and recycling sediment locally for golf course maintenance materials, parks landscaping projects, resident gardens and also sold to local landscaping companies.
  • 2008 – Completed 570ft of shoreline stabilization and 3 acres of stream/fisheries/wildlife habitat work along the Pheasant Branch Conservancy Creek Corridor
  • 2008 - Completed 5,000 sq ft. intergenerational “splash pad” in Lakeview park, largest of all municipal splash pads in Wisconsin, utilizing state of the art vortex splash pad play items
  • 2008 – Installed additional skate park play amenities and features at the Quarry Park Skate Facility, the 2 nd largest municipal outdoor skate park in Wisconsin (10,000 sq ft.)
  • 2008 – North Fork Pheasant Branch Creek Kiosk & Interpretive sign Development
  • 2008 – Installed a 20x20 shade shelter at the MRD off Leash Dog Park utilizing ($3,000 in donations raised by dog park users). The 20 acre MRD Dog Park is the 3 rd largest fenced dog park area in Dane County and features the only permanent outdoor agility course for pets.
  • 2008 – Installed new swings at Stricker Park
  • 2008 – Installed porous asphalt and up graded shelter lighting at Fireman’s Park
  • 2008 – Installed new playground equipment at Parisi Park
  • 2008 – Installed Lakeview Park Shelter Security System in cooperation w/ Police Dept Grant ($10,000)
  • 2008 – Installed 100’ boardwalk on Middleton Beach Road as part of conservancy Area G Restoration Plan
  • 2008 – Completed Gypsy Moth Monitoring & Control Spraying Program utilizing DNR Urban Forestry Grant ($10,000)
  • 2008 - Quisling Park Baseball Facility completed including fencing, bleachers, scoreboards, signage and parking area
  • 2008 – Firefighter’s Memorial Park Softball Complex completed including a concession/shelter/announcer facility, fencing, four (4) state of the art softball diamonds, scoreboards, bleachers, lighting and pathways.
  • 2009- Middleton station Park – Shelter Installation completed
  • 2009 – Pleasant View Ski Trail Planning & Expansion Project
  • 2009 – Installed 150’ of ADA accessible boardwalk on Tiedeman Pond
  • 2009 – Completed the DOT Trails Project along the PB Creek Corridor including installation of 10’ porous asphalt path & three clear span bridges
  • 2009 – FFMP Championship Soccer Field completed including fencing, 500 seat bleachers, scoreboards, lighting, and coaches/announcer facility.

PUBLIC LAND ACQUISITIONS

  • 2007 – Joint Land Acquisition Project w/ Dane Co Parks, DNR & Town of Middleton – to purchase the Hinrich’s Family Farm, a $310,000 DNR Stewardship Grant Project. Oak Savanna & Prairie Area to be preserved as such
  • 2008 – Land Acquisition Project – purchased 19.2 acre parcel from MCPASD w/ FOPB along Highland Way to be dedicated as the John C Bock Community forest Area, as part of Pheasant Branch Conservancy ($300,000 in City Funds were combined w/ a record setting million dollar grant project for land preservation)
  • 2008 – Land Acquisition Project – Purchased the 5.9 acre PDQ Parcel along Allen Boulevard, for a wetland conservancy area utilizing DNR Stewardship Funds ($340,000)

GRANTS AND GIFTS

  • 2007 – DNR Urban forestry Grant – Stricker Pond conservancy Area – Oak Savanna Restoration Project ($10,000)
  • 2007 – Completed a DNR Dredge Feasibility Study for Lake Mendota & Harbor, received a $10,000 DNR Grant for this to be done.
  • 2007 – Applied for & received a DOT Trails Grant for $218,000 for porous paving & three bridges along the PB Creek Trail
  • The Born Learning Trail at LAKEVIEW Park, an intergenerational trail activity for all, donated by United Way, a first in Wis. & DaneCounty
  • Received two $75,000 project donations from American Girl Foundation & Madison Community Foundation in support of the Lakeview Park Splash Pad project, effectively saving taxpayers over $361,000!
  • 2008 – Applied for & received over $70,000 in FEMA Funds to complete Repair Park & trail areas & stream bank stabilization gabions damaged by the 2008 Flood Event.
  • the Lake Mendota & Baskerville Harbor Dredging Project costs of $200,000 were offset with grants received like the DNR Sport Fishing Restoration Grant ($80,000), DNR Recreation Boating Grant Funds ($80,000), Dane County Conservation Aids Grant Funds ($15,000), Madison Fishing Expo Group Funds ($14,000), Dane county conservation League Funds ($3500)
  • Shoreline stabilization and habitat work on the PB Conservancy Corridor utilizing DNR Urban Non Point Source Pollution Grant Funds ($118,000)
  • paved bike/ped pathways at Quisling & FFMP utilizing DNR ADLP Grant Funds ($149,000)
  • 2009 – Completed EAB Management Plan utilizing DNR Urban Forestry Grant Funds ($3500)
  • 2008 – Received Dane Co Bike/ped Grant for $10k to initiate and coordinate Good Neighbor Trail Master Plan Process for development of a regional shared use trail system west of Middleton
