Property tax bills are generally mailed around December 15th of each year. The City tax rate is determined after the approval of the budget by the Common Council usually at the end of November or early December. In addition to your municipal taxes, your bill includes taxes levied by other taxing jurisdiction in which your property is located (Middleton Cross Plains Area School District, Madison Area College, Waunakee School District, Dane County and the State of Wisconsin).
Tax Collection & Unpaid Taxes
The City of Middleton collects taxes through January 31 (postmarked) of each year. On February 1, unpaid taxes are turned over to the Dane County Treasurer’s office for collection. The amounts outstanding, as well as any previous year's taxes can be accessed through the Dane County Treasurer’s Office or by calling (608) 266-4151.
A minimum of the first installment is due by January 31 (postmarked). If you do not make at least the 1st installment by that date, you forgo the installment option and the full tax bill plus penalty will be due to Dane County.
